A great day for tenants in Toronto!

Yesterday was a day of wins for tenants in Toronto!

City Council voted in support of a strengthened RentSafeTO program which includes new rules for landlords that require them to make information available to tenants about their building's evaluation results, Fire Code violations, pest management, heating and cooling, and to regularly provide information on the RentSafeTO program. Landlords will also have to post a colour-coded sign displaying their city-issued rating, similar to those seen in restaurants.

In addition to the strengthened rules for RentSafeTO, City Council supported my motion to ask the province to bring back rent control and for a report back on measures the City can take to ensure that when we provide financial incentives to developers to build affordable housing units, rent increases for market units in the same development are controlled.
