Bridge Rehabilitations over Black Creek on Downsview Avenue and Gordon MacKay Road

The City of Toronto is planning to rehabilitate two bridges over Black Creek on Downsview Avenue and Gordon MacKay Road near Jane Street and the 401.

This work will ensure the bridges meet today’s standards and remain safe for vehicles and pedestrians into the future. The project is part of the Council-approved 2020 Capital Works Program.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT COVID-19 AND CONSTRUCTION WORK IN TORONTO

As restrictions on construction have been lifted by the Province of Ontario, City-led infrastructure will continue to proceed. During construction, the contractor is responsible for the Health & Safety on site under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and is expected to implement COVID-19 mitigation practices. The City’s contractor will:

  • Construct new parapet wall and new handrails

  • Replace the concrete deck, sidewalks, asphalt surface, waterproofing and retaining walls

  • Naturalize creek bed.

Stage 1: Gordon MacKay Bridge

Dates: July 2020 to September 2020 Traffic Management: One lane of directed traffic through the construction zone. Stage 2: Downsview Bridge Dates: August 2020 to November 2020 Traffic Management: One lane of directed traffic through the construction zone. Stage 3: In-water work under the both bridges Dates: October 2020 to March 2021 Traffic Management: As work will be on the underside of the bridge, vehicular traffic will not be affected by the work. WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CONSTRUCTION • You may experience dust, noise and other inconveniences. The City will make efforts to reduce impacts. We appreciate your patience.

Work Hours: Work will take place 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays. No work will occur on Sundays and Statutory holidays. Road and Sidewalk Access: In order to complete the work in a safe manner, there will be road and sidewalk restrictions within the construction work area. At least one sidewalk will remain open at all times on both Drumheller Road and Berry Creek Drive. Temporary signage will direct pedestrians to safety cross the bridge. Traffic Management: Efforts have been made to manage traffic in the area for the safety of workers, road users and residents. Road users should expect delays due to detouring the closed bridge sites. Parking: Parking in the active work zone is not permitted due to space requirements for construction equipment and materials. If your parked vehicle affects the construction work, it will be re-located with no charge to the owner. Please contact parking control for the location of your vehicle at 416-808-2222. Restoration: The construction work area will be restored with sod and/or asphalt where required. Interlocking bricks, flagstone on a granular base, or other similar features that are removed during construction will be replaced.
