Communications and Outreach Advisor
Major Responsibilities
Working with the Councillor and reporting directly to her Executive Assistant, the successful candidate will be responsible for a range of communications and outreach work in a fast paced political environment.
Job Duties
Regularly update, monitor and manage social media accounts
Update and maintain the Councillor’s website, including content development
Prepare communication material including electronic newsletters, print newsletters, meeting notices, advertisements and media releases
Draft speaking notes and briefing materials for the Councillor
Develop and implement office Social Media strategy to increase online presence and engagement
Liaise and maintain positive working relationships with City staff, community groups and other stakeholders
Represent the Councillor at meetings and events
Maintain confidentiality of personal and sensitive information
Undertake special assignments and projects as requested
Qualifications and Skills
Post-secondary education in Communications or Public Relations or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2-3 years of experience in communications
Demonstrated ability to develop strong working relationships with individuals and organizations
Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure, set priorities, and meet deadlines
Strategic and creative thinker
Solutions-focused with the ability to take initiative, be resourceful, proactive and manage multiple projects
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Intermediate skills in graphic design and significant experience using social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
Experience in web design and management software (proficiency using Wix is an asset)
Experience in media relations
Ability to work flexible hours which may include some evenings and weekends
Experience in a political office and knowledge of York South-Weston issues and communities, as well as broader municipal issues are an asset
Fluency in a second language is an asset
This is a full time contract position.
