Say Cheese

City Hall was abuzz with activity as Councillors gathered for the annual Picture Day. Dressed to impress, they paused their busy schedules to update official portraits and capture the essence of teamwork and leadership that drives Toronto forward. This day not only highlights the faces behind the city’s decisions but also serves as a reminder of each Councillor's dedication and service to their role.

Century-Old Charm Revived with Humber River Touch

Weston’s historic Humber stone retaining walls, built a century ago, are being restored! Crews are reusing original stones and even adding river water to the mortar for a special nod to the Humber River.

Work wraps up by spring—just in time for music and theatre at Little Avenue Memorial Park. Big thanks to residents for championing this project!

Weston Loop Design Charrette

"UNITY in COMMUNITY" Prayer Walk!

We gathered for a powerful moment of unity and healing, led by the Toronto Police Service Faith Leaders in partnership with the Canadian Black Clergy and Allies.

We walked through Weston Rd and Lawrence Ave, a community that has overcome recent challenges, standing together in solidarity. This event welcomed people of all faiths to come together for a shared purpose: unity and hope.

Special thanks to Lead Pastor Dennis Johnson, 12 Division Chaplain Paulette Crooks-Drummond, and Sgt. Greg Falconer for their leadership.

We're excited to announce that the next walk will take place this spring—let’s continue building bridges in our community!

A special day at City Hall as we raised the flag to celebrate the Raptors' 30th season! I was thrilled to be joined by Mayor Olivia Chow, First Deputy Mayor Ausma Malik , Raptors GM Bobby Webster, Raptors Ambassador Jamaal Magloire, and of course, the Raptor himself!

Emancipation Month

August is Emancipation Month and the City of Toronto celebrates the resilience and contributions of Black communities to our city’s cultural fabric while commemorating the struggle, resistance and freedom from enslavement. Join the City in reaffirming our commitment to addressing systemic barriers faced by Black Torontonians and promoting inclusivity and equity across all aspects of civic life.

Pelmo Park OLA

Last weeks community meeting regarding an Off-Leash Area (OLA) for Pelmo Park was well-attended. Many different ideas were discussed regarding location and size of the OLA - providing valuable information for City staff.

Happy Anniversary!

The Meat Store has reached a 100-year milestone!  Started by the grandfather in Grassano, Basilicata in Italy and brought to Toronto in the 60s, the Rapanaro family have been long-term residents of York South-Weston. It was a great pleasure to share in this special celebration.

Movie Night in the Park

Another great Movie Night at Maple Leaf Park where friends and families came out to enjoy games and a movie under the stars! Thank you to Luisa Giacometti and the rest of the Rustic-Maple Leaf Homeowners Group  as well as all the volunteers who helped make this event a success!

Leon's Community Outreach

Masjid El Noor

I attended the Masjid El Noor Annual Community BBQ this past Sunday. 
It was a wonderful event and an honour to help hand out the recognition awards to community leaders and organizations who make a positive impact the community. I look forward to next years event!

Connections & Relationships: People, Community, and our Roots

Twenty grade-1 kids from Weston’s St. John the Evangelist school visited Weston Historical Society’s museum at their Lawrence & Weston office. Emily Moretti, a Toronto Catholic District School Board teacher and their Summer Learning Program site lead, arranged the visit.

Eagle Attack!

Party by the Pond

A great big thanks goes out to the Mount Dennis BIA, who hosted a fantastic Party by the Pond, nestled in an abundance of green space.
This Party was a wonderful venue, providing an excellent opportunity to  to meet new people, reconnect with old friends, and enjoy delicious treats supplied by Supercoffee and Meechies.

Tenant Meeting

A great and lively turnout for the 1440 & 1442 Lawrence Avenue tenant meeting on July 04, 2024.  Presentations from Police, RentSafeTO and Crime Stoppers were well received. Discussions around goal setting and scheduling for future conversations.

Canada Day

The Sunny skies added to the fun of the Amesbury Park Canada Day Celebration.  Thank you to everyone who made Canada Day so memorable this year – the organizers of all the great events and the many volunteers who made it all possible!

Thank you to all that attended and participated in the Community Consultation Meeting for 1575 Lawrence Avenue West, a proposed 11-storey mixed-use condominium building.

Neighbour’s Night Out

The Weston Village Residents’ Association’s Neighbours Night Out 2024 was a resounding success! Many thanks to the tireless volunteers , the major sponsors and local businesses - it takes a Village to create a vibrant community in Weston.

Pelmo Park - Splash Pad Construction

I am happy to share wonderful news that the construction for the Pelmo Splash Pad has begun!

Casa Abruzzo - Flower Donation

I want to thank Scarlett Gardens Nursery and Florist (formerly known as Tumino's) for donating flowers to the residents of Casa Abruzzo. The seniors enjoyed planting these beautiful flowers on this warm sunny day. I look forward to seeing them in full bloom.

Keeping Our Seniors Fit

A great big thank you goes out to Old Mill Cadillac who sponsored the St. Fidelis Golden Age Club expansion of their exercise program to two-days a week by adding rhythm and movement classes to their chair exercise program.

Lights, Action, Sirens

The Toronto Police Services 12th Division's Family Fun Day was a great success! They had a fantastic turnout, with folks enjoying the activities, delicious food, and great company. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible.

Congratulations to the Humber Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons commemorating their 150th year in the Weston Community & the 100th year Anniversary of the Weston Masonic Temple.

Chalk My Walk

The Mount Dennis BIA 2nd annual Chalk My Walk was a great triumph! Loads of people turned out for the event featuring Fringe Festival, Bike Tune-Ups, Eco Crafts and a Bake Sale.

35th Annual Weston Village Yard Sale

Hurrah to another successful Weston Village Yard Sale!  A beloved tradition bringing our community together for three and a half decades of treasures and togetherness.

15 King - 30th Anniversary

For three decades, Central King Seniors residence has been dedicated to enriching the lives of their residents, ensuring they live with dignity, comfort and joy.

Progress Pride

On Monday June 03, the Progress Pride flag was raised at Etobicoke Civic Centre.  Councillors Nunziata, Morley, and Holyday led the ceremony marking the occasion with an official proclamation declaring June as Pride Month in Toronto.

D-Day Commemoration

The Royal Canadian Legion Zone D1 commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy with wreath laying ceremony at Sanctuary Park to honour and remember Canada's participation.
