Dear friends and neighbours,

At the last City Council Meeting, a pilot project was proposed to legalize the consumption of alcohol in City of Toronto parks. While the idea of fostering a more relaxed atmosphere for social gatherings and community bonding is commendable, after careful consideration and discussions with our Community, I decided to vote against this pilot project. You can read more below regarding my stance on this issue.

This Saturday, Shakespeare in Action will be performing an opening night show of otîhêw. Join the Weston Community at 7 p.m. in Little Avenue Memorial Park to watch the debut of this exciting local production. The otîhêw performance will run Wednesday to Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays 2 p.m. until August 20th, 2023. The show is free to the public so don't forget to bring your lawn chairs!

The Culture Shock Arts Festival will return to the Weston Community this month from August 16th to August 19th. Join me in enjoying local Music, Art, and Food. You can find more details regarding the festival by clicking the flyer below. I hope to see you there!

On Sunday August 20th, the Humber River Pals will be hosting an environmental initiative to clean up our beloved Humber River. I am extremely happy to see our Community come together to take care of our local environment and waterway. All supplies will be provided and you can sign up to join the cleanup by simply scanning the QR code below, or clicking the flyer.

Frontlines Community Hub have started their Summer Leaders in Training Program. The program is designed to nurture leadership skills, instill confidence, and foster teamwork among participants. Through interactive workshops, outdoor challenges, and inspiring guest speakers, campers will learn to communicate effectively, make informed decisions, and embrace their unique qualities as leaders. This weekend, I urge all of you to take advantage of City-run attractions and recreational opportunities. Simcoe Day – Monday, August 7, is named after Lieutenant-Governor John Graves Simcoe, who founded York/Toronto in 1793, Toronto’s annual Civic Holiday celebration is the first Monday of each August. I have included a list of all attractions open this long weekend below in my news section.
