Dear friends and neighbours,

I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable long weekend.

At City Council today, I was happy to second a Member’s Motion from Councillor Gord Perks bringing forward a staff report to enable the City to respond to the pending receivership of Toronto Arstcape Inc. The motion authorizes City staff to act with the delegated authority of City Council to represent the City’s interests in Ontario Superior Court where the receivership process will unfold. By doing so, the City will be able to continue to work to protect the assets that Artscape developed in Toronto, including affordable housing and community cultural hubs, like Weston Common. Our goal in this is to fully preserve all the affordable housing, creative spaces and programming that Artscape has built over the years by identifying new operators for these spaces and services. You can find the full details regarding Artscape in my news section below.

I would like to acknowledge The Romano D’Andrea Family Foundation’s recent donation to help fund programming for Shakespeare in Action. Romano D’Andrea is an incredible advocate for the performing arts who is keenly aware of the opportunity to build a new cultural hotspot in Weston. The Romano D’Andrea Family Foundation, sees the value of investing in theatre, particularly theatre that is culturally relevant and timely and the impact that can have on a community. Without this funding, Shakespeare in Action would not be able to run their programs and workshops across our Community.

With the Halloween season just around the corner, mark your calendars for a meaningful event happening on Sunday, October 15. Community members on Queens Drive, with the generous support of Canadian Tire, local RE/MAX offices, and Kinder, are coming together for a Treat Accessibly event. This initiative invites families to join in, celebrating the spirit of Halloween while championing accessible change across Canada. It's all about creating memorable moments and spreading the vital message that an accessible and inclusive Halloween is the best kind for everybody. Space is limited, so don't wait – register today and be part of this heartwarming Halloween event that welcomes kids and parents, with or without disabilities. All the details can be found in my news section below.

Wishing you and your loved ones a warm weekend.

Sincerely,
Frances
