Dear friends and neighbours,

I would like to kindly remind you that my office has partnered with Denny's on St. Clair this year to raise donations of Food and Toys for families in need in York South – Weston. I would like to invite families to join Santa, TPS 12 Division Community Officers, Denny's staff, and myself at the Denny's Diner on St. Clair this Saturday, December 16th at 3 p.m. for a special event to close off this wonderful initiative. I kindly suggest each family bring a toy or non-perishable food to donate if they are able to and support this important cause. All the toys raised will go to Toronto Police 12 Division to distribute to identified families in York South – Weston. Donated food will go to our local food bank Weston Area Emergency Support (WAES). You can find more information regarding this event and initiative in my News section. I hope to see many of you there!

Last Tuesday, I hosted a meeting regarding Improvements for North Park. I want to thank all those who attended and provided their feedback. The survey for residents to provide feedback and ideas on how to improve the park is still open. I encourage everyone to take the survey by clicking this link: Toronto.ca/NorthPark . This survey will close this Sunday December 17, so please provide your feedback as soon as you are able too.

This winter season, Amesbury Arena has opened for Leisure Skating. The schedule will be in effect until December 23rd, 2023 and resume on January 8th, 2024 and run until March 10th, 2024. You can find the schedule and details below.

I would like to remind property owners that the deadline to declare a property’s occupancy status for the 2023 taxation year set for February 29, 2024. As part of the Vacant Home Tax program, a declaration must be made each year, even if the owner resides at the property.

A property is subject to the Vacant Home Tax if it is a residential property that is not the principal residence of the owner or permitted residents, is unoccupied for more than six months and does not qualify for an exemption or is a property where no declaration is submitted.

Property owners or their authorized representative (for example, a relative or friend) can declare the occupancy status of a property through the secure online portal available on the City’s Vacant Home Tax webpage: www.toronto.ca/VacantHomeTax. Alternatively, owners or their representative can submit a paper declaration form available at Property Tax and Utility customer service counters at Toronto City Hall and all Civic Centres, or by contacting 311. My Constituency Office at 2221 Keele Street, will also be available to help fill out paper decelerations for those who need assistance. You can find more details regarding the Vacant Home Tax below.

Last week, the Weston Village BIA received an award at the 13th annual BIA Recognition Awards Gala. The award was presented by the Toronto Association of BIAs (TABIA) for best Floral Design. I want to personally congratulate the BIA volunteer board of management, BIA staff, and all our local businesses for showing the entire City how beautiful and collaborative Weston really is. I also want to remind everyone how important it is to shop and support local this holiday season. Let's show our local businesses some love this Holiday season!

Wishing you a warm and safe weekend.

Sincerely,
Frances
